What is your fee?

Fees are comparable to other psychologists in private practice located in Central Texas. Standard rates are $150 per hour. Reduced or sliding fee rates may be available under some circumstances and based on financial need. Assessments generally cost between $1200 and $3000 depending on referral question, the scope of the assessment, and amount of time required to complete the assessment. Dr. Carter currently accepts checks and credit cards as forms of payment. A set fee will be discussed during the consultation and determined prior to services.

Do you take insurance?

Currently Dr. Carter is not an in-network provider for any insurance companies. This allows you to have maximum control and privacy over your records. Payment is made directly to Dr. Carter at the time of service. Some insurance companies offer coverage for assessments in the form of reimbursements to clients. To determine eligibility, contact your insurance company prior to your visit to determine whether your insurance company will reimburse you for any portion of your assessment fee. We will provide a receipt/invoice for you to submit to your insurance company, if desired.

How should i prepare my child for the assessment?

It is important to talk to children about what will happen before any procedure. Children feel less anxious when they know what to expect. Be sure your child knows that there will be no physical exam, so no needles or medicine. For younger children, you may wish to emphasize the play aspect, focusing on the puzzles and games. For older children, it is often helpful to describe both games and school-type work, but there are no marks or grades given. Keep in mind while we try to engage the child and adolescent it is not all fun and games, so it is wise to not to tell your child that they will play the entire time. Make sure they get a good night sleep and eat some breakfast.

What should i bring the day of the assessment?

If your child wears glasses or a hearing aid, please make sure to bring these to the assessment. If possible, bring copies of recent report cards and any reports of previous assessments of any kind (e.g. psychological, psychiatric, speech and language, occupational therapy, etc.). If your child has an IEP (Individual Education Plan) or Section 504 accommodations, please bring a copy of this as well. Your child can bring a snack or lunch. Your child may want to bring a sweater or jacket in case the testing room is cold.
